The battle between search engine heavyweight champion Google and contender Bing continues to heat up, as both companies have traded updates and innovations to their programs in recent weeks. PC World reports that in an interesting development, it's now Google that's scrambling to keep up with Bing, as they have hastily released a "Similar Images" feature to their image search that is almost identical to the "Search Similar" feature that Microsoft developed for the pre-Bing search engine Microsoft Live Search.
Much like the Bing "Search Similar," Google's "Similar Images" lets you narrow down search results by clicking on images that are similar to the results you would like to see. For example, if you search for "jaguar" you might get results for both the car and the animal. Clicking on a box next to a picture of the feline version will eliminate all of the cars. You can further refine the searches by clicking to see only pictures of jaguars in trees or on the ground.
Google is still the clear market share leader in Web searches, with the latest ComScore numbers saying that 64.9 percent of all searches done in September were done with Google, compared with 18.8 percent on Yahoo and 9.4 percent on Bing.
