Myself Gogoejoe I read post ,your problem is so simple just read the following.
The forums signatures is one type of marketing for perticular website it's call promotion
there are two ways one is mailing to user and other is SEO both are use for to increase
no. of user, signatures is one part of SEO using it user can click on it and website is
open so automatically traffic is generate and google is give the rank base on traffic
so,all these activity is to increase the rank of website beacause of user can see only 1 to 10 pages. in short "The forums signatures are actually one way to build links over the net and many webmasters are using them for increasing their sites traffic and rankings online."

Signature is just another form of showing your links or any other information in the form of links. You can add a signature to your profile about anything you would like to share with people here. It can be a link to your website.

Signature is your space in any forum. If it allows bb code you can post link to your site. It can give you quality backlink if you post in high PR forums. Plus traffic of course.
