All posted above is right. Additionally, Search engines index forums frequently, so posting in forums is a good way to gain quality backlinks with the anchor text of your choice.

Definitely!
Backlinks are one of the factors in getting a good ranking in Google. But not all backlinks are counted by Google, only the quality ones are given utmost weight.

You said that you can't even see more than 10 backlinks on a ranking website.
It can be because the updates doesn't take effect on that site yet that's why the site only got less than 10 links. Also, you cannot see all the links of the site in Google if you are using the site commands.

At the same time your content and on-page factors are also important - that only going to get many visitors and keep them in your site.. |

Yeah it really helps. GUARANTEED.. Because building your quality links is one of Google requirements for you to have a good rankings.  So you need to do link building continuously to maintain your ranking..

Yes, backlinks really help in SERP's because all the search engines love the sites that have many backlinks. That's why you need to create more backlinks to keep in high ranking in search engines.
