Duplicate Content is Important

Hi,

I'm running the shopping site www.supremedeal.com and currently experience some kind of problems with ranking. I use to have PR5, then it was changed many times up and down. As of now it even diappear from Google ranking. I did many updates for my site and I suspect, I might have some duplicate content with my old pages which are still on the server (i keep them for my references).

My question is the following:
Does anyone know any tools or technics to check duplicate content, to make sure I didn't brake SE criteria.

Hi, if you already know that you have duplicate content, try creating a folder on your server, then move the duplicates to it and then use robots.txt file to exclude search engines from indexing the folder.

This way your duplicate contents will not get indexed. Very Happy

Thanks bermuda,

I will try to remove whatever I found to the different server.
But the main issue is, I don't know how many duplicate contents I have. I guess I found not everything that I have there. As I said, I did a lot of things to improve my site, and at the beginning I even didn't pay so much attention to duplicates (I simply didn't know how important it is).

That's why I ask, is there any tools or technics to find those duplicates, so I wouldn't go to every singe file searching for it.

To check duplicate content, copyscape is great. When you type URL in copyscape, scanning process takes place & if content is copied, then it is shown in results. It gives idea, from where the content is taken.

Copyscape is very easy and inexpensive tool for checking for duplicate content.In order to pass Copyscape, content must be substantially written, with 50-75% of the content is changed.

Besides Copyscape, you can also use the free duplicate content checker at: webconfs.com/similar-page-checker.php. It works perfectly!

I use CopyScape to check for duplicate content. Their services are really good and best of all it's FREE. Check out their website copyscape.com. You can also go to their forums there if you need more info about it.

The best tool to check for content duplicacy is by CopyScape. Even i refer the same tool whenever I'd like to check for duplicate contents.

However, if you feel that your ranking haves dropped due to some duplicate content pages on the server itself then you can prevent them to be crawled by search engines using Robots.txt file.

You can also use www.duplicatecontent.net. It's not as good as copyscape, but you can compare two web pages.

Duplicate content is not useful for seo if you want you keywords get on top ranking than you have to use fresh and quality content.

Copyscape is obviously a great tool.

If your worried about duplicate content on your own domain though, i.e two of your own pages showing the same stuff... then check google webmaster tools out.
