Lets Attempt to Resolve these controversies ...

Arrow Are Yahoo SERPs Hand Manipulated Question
(eg. Look the SERPs for Search Engine(s) - now look at the OTHER Inktomi SERPs)

Arrow Does the Title and Description Given by the EDITOR - Nullify YOUR title, Metas, Bodytext etc Question

Arrow Despite the potential Link Value of a Listing - Are Searchers using the Directory or just MARKETING Depts looking for LEADS Question

Good find! I have heard that Google manually checks top 10 results of top keywords and edits them. This may be true for Yahoo too or maybe Yahoo just has a better algo.

You mean if the site is in Yahoo Directory, then does the site's actual Title tag and Meta tags still a ranking factor in Yahoo Search (not directory)?
If this is your question, then the Yahoo Directory Title/Descriptions have no effect in rankings in Yahoo Search and they do not nullify the actual Titles ans metas.

I am sure some are.

The only concern is before getting several established Web pages in the Yahoo Directory - noticed the many keywords they were coming up under in Yahoo Search

AFTER - getting them in Yahoo Directory - most of the Keywords were gone - Except for the ones in the EDITED title and description

Also if one submited their HOMEPAGE to the directory - the editors INSISTED on using the URL as the all-important Title - however, with the other pages they would use the title in the page.

The new strategy was making a page just for the Yahoo Directory
and optimizing the Title and URL - unfortunately, the lower one is alphabetically, the decreased traffic coming to the page generally.

Yahoo directory is no longer alphabetically ranking pages. Instead it uses link poularity as a factor. In addition, Yahoo directory titles and descriptiosn have no effect in ranking in Yahoo Search. They just simply grab the title and description of those site slisted in the directory, but don;t apply those towards rankings.

thank you the info about Yahoo no longer alphabetizing by DEFAULT

Going to immediately publicize this on other related forums

But, it seems very likely that the edited titles and descriptions do factor in SERPs depending on the ALGOs that are being used by Yahoo

Of course, by listing them by popularity - it does leave the newer sites at a disadvantage - how can they become competative? Sad

it's always something Rolling Eyes
