link farming are like keyword stuffing, collecting links from other site.. even if it is not related to your site...some SEs don't like link farming...

I don't think the link from not related site will hurt you so much (if it's not bad site, like SPAM, gambling and so on). It might not help you like site with the relevant content, but if it's a good site with high PR it might even help you.
As far as I understand the link farm, it's something like a source, which supply your website with the huge number of different relevancy links for a short period of time. I've heard the number of links is limitted per certain perion of time, so for example you shouldn't exchange hundreds links per day.

Traditionally, a link farm was one of the following:
- a link page that allowed just about anything to be submitted
- an automated method for distibuting links across multiple sites
Both of these practices can result in problems with google.

Speaking about a link page that allowed just about anything to be submitted. Recently I saw the page with a huge number of different links submitted on it, but it didn't hurt it. It's PR was pretty high. How could it be? Was it link farm?

getting link from link firm is like spamming. search engine dont trust. so u should avoid it.

Link farm is link to a many website which is not related actually its an abuse.

We are so worried about PR rankings sometimes that we forget we actually get real traffic from other websites linking to us regardless of the search engines rankings. I checked my logs and I have some really funky websites giving me thousands of hits of traffic. The reason we want seo is to get traffic right?

And Google not considered that as a good link and it will hurt your site.

you can prevent link farm from your site by categorizing/organizing the links from your site..
you have to check also if your links from other site if it's placed on a page that have many links and unorganized.. it may also devaluate your site..

Yup, I agree with you dude be careful on exchanging link to other get the quality and not the quantity.

I have also the same view..its a page where the website owners try to fool the search engine by saying that we have a lot of back links
