Homepage or deep links on directory sites?

I've always heard the rule was to promote your homepage in niche directories but lately I've seen many companies promoting internal pages for more obscure search terms. What are your thoughts on this?

If the directory allows for deep linking, then by all means go for it. You need to get links directly to your deeper content to ensure that you rank for those terms.

It is best to promote each page individually. This includes the home page, of course The keywords should be unique to each page. And as others have said... content is king. We are in the process of completely revamping the gui on our website and are re-working the SEO for them. Wink

Incoming links to inner pages is critical for good SERP placement. So its definately worthwhile submitting your inner pages to directories where you can... although there arent many directories that allow such submissions

It depends on your target. Directories that accept deep links are difficult to find these days. Most of them don't accept such links.

you can submit your deep links in Directory and because of deeplinks submission you will be able to increased your SERPS.
