Does Back Links really help in positioning??

hello,

I want to get an answer for back links, i often read that if you need to get top position in SE, you should have some solid back links.

But

I noticed quite of the time that some websites don't even have 10 links, they are dominating in search engines.

Please

Tell me what are the back links and how they really help???

If you see a page on top of google without any backlinks its probably because the domain itself has a ton but not that particular page. Backlinks are EVERYTHING.

You need backlinks for serp rankings. That is a very very important factor for serp.

Yes backlinks are necessary for a decent SERP in google. Never try to get the backlink count in google as it will not show the exact backlink count.

Backlinks is very important because it is the indication of the popularity or importance of that website and some search engines especially Google will give more credit to websites that have a good number of quality backlinks.

When you are checking backlinks, don't use Google. I don't know why they don't show you all the links. However, the reason is not that important. Use Yahoo instead. Just type Link:www.ANYDOMAIN.com and hit enter Wink

You will usually see thousands of links.

You should follow the basic rules of SEO.
SEO consists two main parts. One is on-page SEO (have an original unique useful content)

Other is off-page SEO (backlink building process)
Get powerful quality backlinks from high PR and related websites.

Links are very important for search engines but without valuable content, all these links are useless. I put more weight to on page seo and when this is "perfect" i start the campaign of link building.
