Rose Misses Another Chance

Stephen Ames took the title from Justin Rose in the Children’s Miracle Network Classic in Florida. Rose had to settle for fourth in the tournament and was hoping for a higher finish.

Rose was the overnight leader going in to the final round of the tournament and was on 13 under par. His final round he came in with a 68 to finish one shot behind Ames. Ames shot a fantastic 64 with George McNeil and Justin Leonard finishing closely behind.

The three were taken to a play-off after Leonard dropped out with a bogey. Ames took a par on the 15th which secured the title for the Canadian.

Englishman Rose,29 is still wanting a win on the PGA Tour and time is ticking. Leonard came extremely close to winning the tournament on the 16th hole. His birdie putt span out of the hole which took the tournament to a play off.
"To be this close and not be able to pull it out is disappointing," said Leonard. "Obviously, I thought I made it by my reaction. I was surprised it didn't go in."

Ames and McNeil had to fight the tournament out however the Americans bogey at 15 cost him the trophy.
Ames celebrated his fourth PGA Tour victory and second in Florida having won the Children's Miracle Network Classic already in 2007.
"At the end of the day on Saturday, I said if I shot 64 I had a good chance at winning the tournament," said Ames said.
"Sure enough, I ended up shooting a 64, which was great."
