What is Backward Links ? How come google is considering links as backward links?

The links coming to your site is known as Backward Links or simply backlinks.

Backward links are generally called as back links and the site contain or having your site link like we submit our site in directories or links in signature of forum posting. Google has their tool to check these back links, you can also check back links to your site with back link checker tool.

Not all links are considered as backlinks.
There several types of links:
Backward links/ back links/incoming links = links pointing to your site
Reciprocal links = exchange of links from site to site
Outbound links = links from your site pointing to other site/s

Agree to your explanation in backward links.. but checking your backlinks using tools is not really accurate. maybe just use the simple manual checking..
