New York, New York - (Website Hosting Directory) - December 7, 2007 - According to a survey, search engine, hakia, has reported that searchers, comparing the Beta to other search engines, have indicated that it is better overall.
Of those surveyed, 23% cite that they will use hakia.com exclusively or most of the time, while 58% will recommend the search engine.
The results of the survey, are based on feedback surveys from 1,579 voluntary submissions. Top line results show that, even in its BETA state, seventeen percent of users say hakia.com is better overall than their favorite search engine; twenty-three percent will use hakia.com exclusively or most of the time; and 58 percent will recommend hakia.com to friends. The results are based on 1,579 anonymous and voluntary survey submissions collected as of November 5, 2007. hakia.com will complete its development phase in 2008.
According to Dr. Riza C. Berkan, CEO of hakia.com, ''These results reveal that there is frustration amongst users of search. Even in BETA, hakia.com is showing overall favorable performance. This signifies that search is still in its infancy. We are improving the industry with meaning-based search. Improved relevancy of search results is what we are already delivering as we move forward on our mission of search for better search.''
Earlier this year, Hakia developed a tool to mitigate interrupted, highlighted sentences. The new hakia Highlighter, is designed to eliminate the need to click on a search result URL to determine its relevance to the query, thereby saving time. According to hakia, most legacy search engines deliver search results in bolded keywords, which may be in different parts of the text, and require a click-through on the URL to be able read the text to assess the relevancy of the search result. The hakia Highlighter speeds the search process and ends repeated ''click-thru, wrong result,'' aka ''click-thru-itis.'' hakia.com's semantic capabilities allow it to display uninterrupted sentences in search results.
The results aim to display a full uninterrupted, highlighted phrase in the search results, to save time in search and eliminates the need to click and see the information contained in a search result. A legacy search engine will bring broken, bolded keywords in its search results which will require an additional click-through to evaluate the relevancy of the results.
Dr. Riza C. Berkan, creator of the search engine explained, ''Endless clicking to find relevant text for searchers is a waste of time. The hakia Highlighter delivers relevant, on-the-spot results to the query. This advancement brings the search industry a step closer to meaning-based search.''
Founder of hakia, Dr. Berkan is a nuclear scientist by training with a specialization in artificial intelligence and fuzzy logic. He is the author of several articles in this area, including the book Fuzzy Systems Design Principles, published by IEEE in 1997. Between 1990 and 2000, Dr. Berkan worked as a subcontractor to the US Government and handled multiple Lockheed Martin Energy Systems and Westinghouse projects involving the Y-12 Plant, Savannah River Plant, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dr. Berkan holds a B.S. in Physics from Hacettepe University, Turkey and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence.
Founded in 2004, hakia developed its first meaning-based search engine, utilizing a new infrastructure, designed to deliver the most relevant search results. The company is privately held and based in New York City.
