1- Intro

We have just found out that you can pre-register new top level domains
(TLDs) approved by ICANN recently. ICANN has approved the use of 9 new
TLDs, which include: .web, .shop, .info, .news, .firm, .arts, .nom, .tel
and .rec.  These new TLDs will be operational in early 2001, but you can
pre-register now, only from the link below:

2- Yahoo Submission Tips - Part III

If you have not read our previous issues with Yahoo Submission Tips part
I and II, please go to our archives below to read them before continuing
here:

http://www.submitexpress.com/newsletters/index.html

Yahoo offers two submission methods: a free submission and an Express
Submission for $199.00, that guarantees a review of your site within one
week.

You may not know this, but Yahoo declines over 90% of the free
submissions that are made through their submission page.  It is almost
impossible to get any site listed with the free submission option. If
there are any problems with your site, Yahoo will not let you know about
it. Normally it takes 3-6 weeks for the free submissions to get listed.
If you have waited about 6 weeks and your site has not been listed, this
means that there was either a problem with your site or that Yahoo
totally ignored your site for one reason or another. For example, sites
being hosted with free hosting services such as Geocities normally get
ignored automatically, and Yahoo may delete these without even looking
at them. Yahoo is looking to add only websites with high quality and
unique content.  For example, if you have a page that is just a bunch of
links to other sites, this will never get listed in Yahoo.

We highly recommend using the Yahoo Express Business submission for
$199.00.  However, please make sure that you meet all their submission
criteria before you do this or your submission may get declined and you
will lose the $199.00 fee.  The submission criteria can be found at:
http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/terms.html

Before you do any free or paid submission to Yahoo, please review the
above document, titled "Yahoo! Business Express Service Agreement."
Please take a close look at section 3.0 "Mimimum Site Criteria."

If getting your listing in Yahoo is not that urgent, you may want to try
the free submission first and wait around 6 weeks.  If you don't get in
within six weeks, then we recommend doing the Express submission. We
have on occasions been able to get our optimization clients listed for
free within 1-2 weeks. However, these sites met all Yahoo requirements
listed in the link above and in our previous articles.

With Yahoo having such a tough listing criteria, we have even seen many
of our paid submissions get declined. Luckily, if Yahoo declines your
paid submission, they will at least send you an email within a week and
let you know what the problem was. They will give you 30 days to correct
the problem and to send them a request for a reconsideration. Most of
the sites that we have seen Yahoo decline were because they did not have
enough content or original content. It is also very important for your
site to be complete before you submit. Yahoo does not accept any sites
with dead links or pages under construction.

For those that absolutely can't afford the $199.00 submission fee, but
have followed all the Yahoo requirements, there may still be a chance.
First, try a second submission and wait about 6 more weeks.  Make sure
to record your submission dates and the email addresses used for the
submissions.  If you still don't get in, email or call Yahoo, tell them
your URL and submission dates and ask them why your site did not get in.

The email address to use is: url-support@yahoo-inc.com

Please do not email to this address unless you have attempted to submit
your site through the regular submission at least twice, otherwise your
email will be ignored.

The Phone number for Yahoo is: (408) 731-3300

If you call this number, it will be answered by an automated system.
The call will require you to choose several options until you get to the
submission department, where you can leave a voicemail and Yahoo may or
may not get back to you.  Make sure to leave your URL on the voicemail.
If you do not get a call back, keep on checking for your listing in
Yahoo for about a week and your site may show up. Another option is to
try and punch in an option to talk to a different department and ask
whoever answers the phone to connect you to the submission department.
On one occasion we were able to contact a real human in the submission
department via this method and talked to them for about a half hour
regarding a bunch of our submission problems.

The above tips will also apply to those who are trying to do a
modification to their existing listing.  To request a modification, make
sure to use the change request form below, otherwise your request will
be ignored:

http://add.yahoo.com/fast/change

If you wait about 6 weeks and your request does not go through, then
follow our advice above on how to contact Yahoo.

We will warn you that there are no short cuts.  If you attempt to
contact Yahoo with the above info for modification requests without
filling out the modification form first, they will ignore your request.
We have already tried this once via phone and it didn't work.

On a final note, do not try repeated submissions to Yahoo more than once
a month. Yahoo submission script will detect all those that spam the
site with multiple submissions and block them permanently.

We hope that our tips above will help you get listed in the most visited
search engine to increase your traffic.

3- Search Engine News

Go.com:

Go.com released their new website design. Primary search results are now
pulled from the directory portion of Go.com. When you do a search for
common terms, you will see 5 matches from Go.com directory first and
then the regular spidered search results will be displayed. It is more
important than ever now to list your site in the directory portion of
Go.com.  To submit your listing to Go.com directory, you can apply to
become a Go Guide at:

http://guides.go.com/

However, we noticed that the Go.com search results are not displaying
fair results, because the results are displayed in alphabetical order.

IWon.com:

A report by Media Metrix has ranked iWon as 10th most visited web site
ahead of Excite, GO.com, and Altavista after only 11 months in business.
See details at:

internet search in a single interface. Eudora email software users will
have a one click access to Northern Light search engine.  See details
