2- .BIZ and .INFO Registration Process

Last year ICANN approved 6 new top level domains, which include: .biz,
..info, .name, .pro, .aero and .museum.  The first of these to come to
the market are .biz and .info.  Below we will tell you the details on
how you can obtain .biz and .info domains.

More info on .biz domains:

On May 21st 2001, .biz became the first new top level domain to be
launched since the creation of .com, .net and .org 15 years ago.
This, together with the launch of 5 more TLDs over the next few
months, is one of the most important and exciting developments
ever in the Internet world.

The .biz is restricted for use by commercial enterprises and as
such will give businesses, the opportunity to redefine their on-
line presence in an environment exclusively tailored to serve
their needs.

The .biz launch commenced with the offering of the IP
(Intellectual Property) Claim Service. This gave registered trade
and service mark holders the opportunity to register their IP
details with .biz. This service reached its conclusion on August
6th, 2001.

If a domain name is later registered that is an exact match of the
IP claim name, the IP holder will be notified and the domain will
automatically be placed on a 30 day hold, giving all parties the
opportunity to determine the rightful domain owner. If the parties
involved are unable to reach agreement, the .biz Start-up
Trademark Opposition Policy (STOP) can be used to resolve the
issue.

The second phase of the .biz is the Domain Name Application Period
or the Lottery Phase. This phase already started in late June and
will go through September 17th.

Applications for the .BIZ domain names will be accepted by NeuLevel,
the .BIZ Registry Operator, through September 17, 2001. At that time a
neutral third party will randomly select an applicant from all
submitted applications for each domain name. The randomly selected
applicant will be awarded the applied for domain name. The registrar
through whom the application was submitted and the applicant will be
notified.

You may submit as many applications per domain as you like. The more
applications you submit per desired domain name, the better your chance
of being selected and awarded the applied for domain name.  Application
fees are around $5 and you will discount with some registrars if you
submit multiple applications. We recommend submitting your application
from our sister site at DomainNamesExpress.com. They have one of the
lowest rates for application and registration. You can go to the link
below to apply:

http://www.domainsexpress.com/

The third and final phase of .BIZ registration will be the real time
registration, which will start on October 1st, 2001. Also, at this date
the complaint period for IP claims begin. Domain names matching the IP
claims will be put on hold for 30 days.

For more info on .BIZ domains and future updates, you can visit:
http://www.neulevel.biz/

More info on .INFO domains:

..INFO domains will also be available in three phases.
The first phase is the Sunrise period, which is for trademark
holders that would like to apply for their domain names in .INFO.
It will start from July 25, 2001, and last until August 27, 2001.
Some registrars are currently accepting applications for trademark
holders.

The second phase will be the open registration and start-up
period. It will start on September 12th and end on September 18th.
This is basically a lottery phase. Any multiple domain name
requests submitted in this period will be randomly chosen and
given to one applicant. Some registrars including our sister site
DomainNamesExpress.com are already accepting applications for this
lottery phase.

You can apply now from the link below:

http://www.domainsexpress.com/

All applications will be held until September 12th and then
submitted to Afilias, the .INFO Registry Operator.  Unlike .BIZ,
only one application will be accepted from each applicant for one
domain name. However, you will still get a discount for applying
for several different domains.

..INFO domains are expected to be active on or about September
19th. After this date the 3rd phase begins, which is the regular
registration. Domains registered after this date are expected to
be resolved 5 minutes after registration.
For more info on .INFO domains and future updates, you can visit:
http://www.afilias.info/

3- LookSmart Increases Submission Fees

On August first, LookSmart increased its Basic Submit Fee to $149.00
(from $99.00) and Express Submit to $299.00 (from $199.00).  That is a
huge increase. However, given LookSmart powers MSN Search and several
other directories, the listing will still pay off after several months.

In addition, new "Express Modify" submission has been added. Express
Modify will allow you to request a description change or category
addition. Description change will cost $199.00 and adding an additional
category will cost $149.00.  Submissions will be reviewed within 5
days.

On a good note, non-commercial sites now have a better chance of
getting into the LookSmart directory. LookSmart purchased the volunteer
powered Zeal directory last year, which has now been fully integrated
into LookSmart.

Anybody can become an editor for the Zeal directory and submit sites.
However, to become an editor, you must pass a quiz.  Zeal wants to make
sure that you have good editorial skills. New editors' submitted sites
will still have to get approved by an editor of a higher lever.

To submit your commercial site to LookSmart please use the below link:
http://submit.looksmart.com/info.jhtml?synd=zbs&chan=subexpr

To submit a non-commercial site, you can go to Zeal.com and register to
become a member and take the quiz:

4- Fast Search upgrades Search Engine

Fast Search (www.alltheweb.com) has made some major changes to its
search engine.  They have updated their index and now include 625
million web pages and 70 million multimedia files.  Fast Search now
promised to refresh pages every 9-12 days.

Some additional changes have been made to features and functionality.
There are more visible features from the main page and on the search
results, such as display of graphics when a related graphic can be
found, such as when you type a celebrity name.

The ranking algorithm has also been improved to display more relevant
results. Site collapsing has also been added, where results from the
same site will be bundled in one listing, rather than one site taking
several spots in the search results.

For more on this, please see their press release at:
http://www.fastsearch.com/index.php?d=press&c=display&pr_rel=93

5- GOTO Extends Grandfather Period

A few months ago GOTO announced that it was increasing minimum bids to
5 cents from a penny and minimum monthly spend to $20. However, they
grandfathered all older advertisers that had bids before March 1st.

Grandfather period was supposed to end on August 1st, 2001. However,
GOTO has extended this date until further notice. They announced that
they did this for the holiday season and will give a 30-day notice when
they decide to end it.

You can become a GOTO advertiser and receive $5 worth of free
advertising from the link below:
