Google Warns Webmasters About Bad Links Pointing to Websites

Since January, Google has notified webmasters via email whenever it discovers and penalizes a website with bad links pointing outwards, or for selling links. Now, the search giant is informing webmasters of the opposite: when it detects links pointing to a site, or for purchasing links.

According to a sample email notification from Google posted on SearchEngineLand.com, Google explains the accusation:

"Specifically, look for possibly artificial or unnatural links pointing to your site that could be intended to manipulate PageRank. Examples of unnatural linking could include buying links to pass PageRank or participating in link schemes."

In the same email notification, the search giant encourages webmasters to make the necessary changes and submit the site for reconsideration. According to Google, "The best way to get other sites to create relevant links to yours is to create unique, relevant content that can quickly gain popularity in the Internet community. The more useful content you have, the greater the chances someone else will find that content valuable to their readers and link to it."
